About the Opportunity

A leading Diversified Financial Services Group listed on the JSE is seeking a highly skilled Manager: Operations and Legal Claims to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong background in managing operations and legal claims within a fast-paced financial services environment. The ideal candidate will have significant exposure to call center environments, strong project management skills, and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance.

Role Overview

The Manager: Operations and Legal Claims will be responsible for overseeing the operations and management of legal claims within the organization. This role requires a strategic thinker with a keen eye for data analysis, the ability to drive key projects, and ensure compliance with various regulations, including legal, risk, and POPIA. The successful candidate will manage a team of skilled professionals and will be tasked with optimizing operational efficiency, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of legal management and non-legal professionals to deliver on operational and legal claims objectives.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring legal claims are handled efficiently and in compliance with all regulations.
  • Develop and implement action plans based on data analysis to address trends and identify areas for improvement.
  • Drive the implementation of key projects within the legal and operational space.
  • Regularly review and assess operational processes, policies, and systems to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with short-term regulatory requirements, legal frameworks, risk management, POPIA, and internal controls across all operations.
  • Manage the division's budget, ensuring all expenditures are tracked and reported accurately.
  • Coordinate and monitor the progress of projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align operational goals and improve service delivery.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • B Comm LLB degree or Admitted Attorney (Preferred).
    • Business Administration, Operations, or similar qualifications (Preferred).
    • Compliance/Regulatory qualifications (Beneficial).
    • At least 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably within the financial services or legal claims sector.
    • Experience in managing call center operations or related environments.
    • Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver projects successfully.
    • In-depth understanding of legal, risk, and compliance frameworks, particularly within the financial services sector.
    • Proven ability to manage budgets and track financial performance.

      Preferred Skills

      • Experience in implementing regulatory and legal compliance policies.
      • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and develop actionable insights.
      • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
      • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence and drive change within the organization.
      • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
      • Knowledge of POPIA and other relevant privacy and data protection laws.
